3 Ways Mindfulness Can Unlock Your Passion
Full disclosure. This is not gonna be a list of 3 steps that you can rush through and voila! -- you’ll be connected to your passion and purpose. This list is more about challenging you to focus on getting to the heart of the matter: you. It’s about building awareness for who you truly are, and being mindful of how you show up in your life ... or don’t. Your passion is not going to just appear fully formed, because you say so. It emerges over time, when you do the work. It is something you have to choose to take notice to.
Why do most people miss their passion? The problem is we are too busy. Everyday is filled to the brim with to-do lists items, and we lose sight of what really matters to us. You can easily miss a glimpse of your calling the minute your attention is drawn to something else. Your passion is there, it's just buried beneath autopilot, to-do lists and stuff. This is where mindfulness can save the day.
Mindfulness is the Key to Unlocking Your Passion
Mindfulness helps you discover who you are, and who you are not. Allow you to see more clearly what is calling you, versus what is merely a distraction. With a clear and focused mind, you are able to find ways nurture your passion and cultivate your purpose.
Through mindfulness you can enhance your ability to see exactly what is present: emotions, thoughts, feelings, the whole nine. The ability to see who you are without judgement leads to acceptance and eventually self-love. When we stop wanting to be someone else, we can finally recognize our distinct talents and passions -- and how we want them to show up in our lives.

In summary, yes, living your passion is ideal, but what if you don’t know what you’re passionate about? Here are 3 ways you can use mindfulness to dig deeper and find your passion.
Clarify Your Values
There are a bajillion ways to identify your core values. One route is considering what matters most to you in life. However, to dig even deeper, what moves you? Think about what sparks deep emotion within you, and make a non judgemental list. Whether it is things you love, or things you hate - those emotions are two different sides of the same coin, and can lead you to your passion.
Do you hate having to get up and go to a 9-5? Perhaps, looking deeper this means you value freedom and flexibility of your time? Or maybe you'd prefer working on your own vision instead of that of someone else.
Identify Potential Hang-ups
With some idea of your values, what is stopping you from living in alignment with them? Is it a lack of money, time, resources -- or lack of belief that you have the ability to? Be honest with yourself about where you stand in relation to the values that truly speak to you and why you are in that place.
For example, do you value independence? How does independence show up in your life? Do you want to own your own business? What’s holding you back from starting -- do you feel you lack skills, knowledge to begin, or time? Write it all down.
Focus on Strengths
The next step is to take your previous list of potential obstacles and re-frame them. Positive thinking is a powerful tool, and promotes the resiliency needed to help you overcome adversity and live out your values. Focus on your strengths or how to further develop yourself, using a skill called positive re-framing. Positive re-framing does not change the situation, but it can put things into a healthier, and less defeating perspective.
Instead of focusing on the idea that you don't have enough time to start your own business - a finite and negative idea. A change of perspective, positive re-frame, is that you need to improve your time management.
