Why You Need Self-Love and How to Find It

You’ll find that self-love is the ultimate necessity in your journey to happiness. It’s so important to learn how to cultivate self-love. It simply means being good to yourself, and it can be practiced in the smallest of ways.

If you’re having trouble in certain areas of your life, a little self-love goes a long way. Almost anything and everything comes back to how you feel about yourself. Ever been through a bad breakup and started neglecting yourself? That was a lack of self-love.

First, you have to realize that self-love is not a final destination. It’s a foundation and practice of living healthy, happy, and fulfilling life. Self-love begins with choosing yourself and continuing to do so. Take a look at how you truly treat yourself. Are you constantly placing blame or guilt? Putting yourself down? Letting others needs go ahead of your own? All of these are both physically and mentally draining. They take away from your choice to be happy. Your first step to self-love starts with choosing yourself.

Pay attention to how you speak to yourself. That negative self-talk has to stop. Be aware of your emotions and how they affect your daily life. Are you speaking loving and caring words to yourself? If not, learn to take control. The moment you feel yourself thinking negatively stop and reverse your thoughts. Do something that makes you feel good about yourself.

Self-love doesn't require a life altering moment. It only requires that you become self-aware, and take necessary actions to bettering yourself. Once you've mentally tackled the emotional side of self-love, the physical will come easy. You can begin to practice self-love through your actions. Learn to say "no" when you've had enough, unplug when you need to, spend time eating alone, practice meditation and prayer. All of these actions begin with choosing yourself.

Ultimately, self-love is a journey. It is a path that you will continue to take throughout your life. You can’t think of it as a final destination, but rather a practice. A way in which you choose to live your life and develop the happiness that you seek.
